How to transcribe Indonesian voice notes to text
InkSaid transcribes Indonesian voice notes on your own Mac with the Whisper model. You drop the note in, the words come back in Indonesian, and the audio never leaves your computer.
Voice notes run business in Indonesia. Suppliers, drivers, landlords and clients all send them, often in a mix of Bahasa Indonesia and English, sometimes with Javanese or Balinese words in between. Reading them is faster than listening, and text is the only way to search them later.
The quick answer
Install InkSaid on a Mac with Apple Silicon. Share or AirDrop the voice note to the Mac, or drop the file on the InkSaid window. InkSaid detects the language and writes out the note in Indonesian. Nothing is uploaded.
How well does it handle Indonesian?
InkSaid uses OpenAI's Whisper model, which was trained on Indonesian and handles everyday speech well. A few honest notes:
- Mixed languages. Notes that switch between Indonesian and English mostly come out right. Very fast switching can trip it up, so check names and numbers.
- Regional languages. Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese are harder than standard Indonesian. Expect more errors there.
- Noise. Notes recorded on a motorbike or in traffic lose words, as they do for any tool.
Why do it on your Mac and not in a chat app?
ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok can transcribe a single note from the share sheet, and that is fine for one message. But each note goes to their servers and the text stays inside one chat thread. For work, you want the opposite: every note kept, filed by who sent it, and searchable later, without the audio leaving your computer.
Search old Indonesian voice notes
With InkSaid Pro, every transcribed note is kept in a private archive on your Mac. Search a word like "harga" or "kirim" and find the note that mentioned it, filed by person. You can also import a whole WhatsApp chat and get every voice note transcribed in place.
Next step
Single notes are free to transcribe. Founding members get Pro, with the archive and chat import, for $39 a year instead of $79.
