WhatsApp chat to PDF tools compared: where does your chat go?
Several tools turn a WhatsApp export into a tidy PDF. Most of them do it on their servers. If the chat is private, that is the first thing to check, before price or layout.
Turning a WhatsApp export into a readable PDF is a solved problem. The real difference between the tools is where the work happens. Some process the chat on their servers and delete it later. Some process it on your own computer and never see it. For a family matter, an employment dispute or a client file, that difference matters more than anything else on the page.
We checked each tool's own public pages on 27 October 2026. Prices and terms change, so confirm them on their sites before you choose.
The short version
| Tool | Voice notes transcribed | Where the chat is processed | What their page says about deletion |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatToPDF, Premium plus Voice | Yes, on the $49 tier | On their servers, transcription by Deepgram | Deleted within 7 days |
| ProofSnap, done for you | Yes, line numbered transcript | Uploaded to them, sealed within 48 hours, $59.99 a conversation | Working copy kept 30 days after delivery |
| InkSaid | Yes, every note | On your own Mac | Nothing is uploaded, so nothing to delete |
When an upload service is the right choice
Be fair to them. ProofSnap adds things InkSaid does not: an independent timestamp from a third party and a signed technical report. If you need someone outside the dispute to vouch for the files, a service like that is built for it. ChatToPDF is quick for a one off export when privacy is not a concern.
When it is not
If the conversation is sensitive, every upload is one more place it lives. A lawyer handling client chats, an HR team handling a complaint, or anyone in a family dispute should ask one question first: who else will hold this conversation, and for how long?
With InkSaid the answer is nobody. The voice notes are transcribed by the Whisper model on your Mac. You get the record with sender and time for every message, a link to each original audio file, and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the export and of every note, so the record can be checked against the source.
What to look for in any tool
- Every voice note transcribed in place, not listed at the end
- The sender and time from the export, not retyped
- The original audio kept and linked
- A fingerprint of the source files
- Clear words on where the chat is processed and when it is deleted
